课程概述

    为了培养商务英语专业本科生形成良好的阅读习惯,提升通过阅读吸收语言知识、文化背景知识以及获取信息的能力,本课程摒弃内容陈旧、脱离学科要求和没有体现学科实用性的内容,既注重学生商务知识的习得又强调其语言技能的提高。本课程在引导学生学习吸收语言知识和文化背景知识的基础上,提高其对词汇、句子以及篇章理解等方面的能力,从而促进学生养成良好的阅读习惯并提高学生的跨文化交际能力。《商务英语》课程是商务英语专业必修的专业基础课程。在整个教学计划中,本课程占有很重要的地位,为商务英语方向学生进一步的专业学习打下了良好的基础。

授课目标

《商务英语》课程旨在培养既懂商务又懂商务英语的高层次复合型国际商务人才;通过本课程的学习,使学员在一定的英语基础上继续提升英语听说读写译等技能,同时学习包括商务文化、商业品牌、商业广告、商业营销、国际贸易、国际支付、商业写作等商务知识与技能,达到能流利地用英语进行商务方面的沟通的目标,能够顺利熟练地用英语进行商务听、说、读、写、译等活动。

本课程的目标在于,一方面教给学生一些未来工作所需要的基本商务知识和技能,为其进一步深入学习商务知识打下基础。另一方面帮助学生扩展商务词汇,在商务的语境下自由而充分地运用英语进行交流。总而言之,无论学生是想从这门课程中学习商务知识,还是想练习商务英语表达,都能够从中受益。

成绩 要求

本课程采用百分制计分,成绩由单元测验和期末考试构成,满分为100分,60分为及格分数,85分以上为优秀。

I. Theme

Roles of International Organizations in the Global Economy

II. Objectives

To make some training on reading strategies:

Read for specific information: learn about roles of some global organizations.

Note-taking: learn to catch key points embodied in each paragraph. 

Grasp the main idea and the structure of the text.

Master the key language points and grammatical structures in the text.

To expand students’ knowledge about global organizations.

III. Learning tasks & teaching procedures

Task 1: Vocabulary & warming-up discussions

Content:  warm-up speaking

Time allocation: 0’-30’

Activities:

Ask students to talk about their understanding of an international organization. When they finish, tell them that different international organizations play different roles. This task arouses students’ interest and prepares them for reading activities.

Explain some new words and terms related to global organizations. 

Task 2 : Pre-reading task

Time allocation: 31’-40’

Activities: Ask students if they can identify different types of international organizations.

Task 3: Reading for specific information: influence of globalization.

Content: Para. 1-2

Time allocation: 0’-10’

Activities:

Ask Ss to read the first two paragraphs of the text and pay special attention to the aims of establishing global organizations. 

Explain some difficult words & phrases

  Pay special attention to expressions like “per capita”, “tariff, policy coordination, financial flows”, etc.

Ask students to write down the key notes in this paragraph.

Explain the relationship between globalization and global organizations.

Check students’ notes.

Task 4: Reading for specific information: the roles of WTO and IMF.

Time allocation: 11’-40’

Activities: 

Ask Ss to read the text from 3rd paragraph to the 8th paragraph and pay special attention to the functions of WTO and IMF. 

Explain some difficult words & phrases

  Pay special attention to words like “tally, banner, flagship”, etc.

Ask students to write down the key notes in this paragraph.

Explain the aims and functions of WTO and IMF. 

Check students’ notes.

Task 5: Reading for specific information: the roles of World Bank, OECD, OPEC and G7.

Time allocation: 0’-30’

Activities: 

Ask Ss to read the text from the 9th paragraph to the 16th paragraph and pay special attention to the roles of World Bank, OECD, OPEC and G7. 

Explain some difficult words & phrases

  Pay special attention to words and expressions like “in turn, infrastructure, quota”, etc.

Ask students to write down the key notes in this part.

Explain the roles of World Bank, OECD, OPEC and G7.

Task 6: Reading for specific information: the overall functions of international organizations.

Time allocation: 31’-40’

Activities: 

Ask students to read the 17th paragraph pay special attention to the overall functions of international organizations.

Explain some difficult words & phrases

  Pay special attention to words and expressions like “liberalize, managerial”, etc.

Ask students to write down the key notes in this part.
