This course is intended for students who have acquired the basic competency in English communication and who are in the process of learning to apply what they have learned in the general English courses to their academic studies and research in the university. Therefore, this course focuses on the training of students' academic reading and writing skills so that they can fulfill the reading and writing requirements for their subject studies.

The course consists of two parts, one focusing on reading and the other on writing, each taking up one semester. In each part of the course, there will be a series of sessions that introduce various academic reading and writing strategies, plus an opening session at the beginning of each semester and a session for student presentations at the end of the semester.

修读本课程的学生起点英语能力应达到《大学英语课程教学要求》一般要求水平。
