作为通识人文课程，“英语话中国传统节日”面向所有热爱中国文化的学习者，特别是有志于向国外友人传播中国文化，用英语讲述中国故事的学习者。本课程采用主题式教学内容的编排形式，选取春节、元宵节、清明节、端午节、七夕节、中秋节和重阳节七个主要传统节日，以生动的故事、丰富的文字、精彩的图片和视频材料，借助现代技术，对中国传统节日文化的起源、演化、习俗和意义进行系统介绍，同时分析中国传统节日的现状、传承和发展。本课程包括11个章节，共32个视频。
通过对中国传统节日相关的古典诗词的赏析和对中国传统节日的渊源、演变、习俗和意义等内容的讲解，使学习者在感受古典诗词英译之魅力的同时，加强对中国传统节日文化的了解，有效帮助学习者提高文化素养，提升爱国情怀，从而培养其跨文化意识和跨文化沟通能力，成为中国文化“走出去”战略的有力推动者。
