课程概述

“Structural Mechanics” is a fundamental course for the major of civil engineering and provides an important basis for specialized knowledge of structural analysis. Following the courses of Theoretical mechanics and Mechanics of materials, the general task of this course is to demonstrate the basic concepts, principles and methods of structural analysis, structural behaviour of bar systems and skills for the analysis of structures.

The main objectives of the course include:

1.    To develop systematic knowledge of structural mechanics, and to learn how to choose appropriate computational models for common bar structures and how to use appropriate methods to solve specific problems.

2.    To develop the ability of structural analysis for all kinds of statically determinate or indeterminate structures, the ability of judging the rationality of computational results and distributions of internal forces, and the ability of computerized structural analysis.

3.    To develop the ability of integrated analysis and the work style of scientific research.

To serve these objectives, every effort has been made to maintain close connections between the methods that are developed for the analysis of various types of structures and the fundamental principles of mechanics on which they are based. It is only through a sound understanding of these principles that the engineer can successfully adapt his methods of analysis to the ever-changing problems that will confront him in this modern era.

Tonji course of Structural Mechanics has two distinct features compared with other world class universities:

(1) Systematic education of conceptual structural analysis;

(2) Close interaction between structural analysis and engineering practice.

These features will help civil engineers of future grow their own creativity and win new challenges in the new era of artificial intelligence.
