College English Reading is one of the compulsory courses for non-English majors. This course provides students with a comprehensive system of reading skills training: how to interpret the theme of specific materials and how to summarize its central idea with the help of key words, topic sentences and some other clues in the context. The important task of this course is to guide students to master reading skills such as skimming, scanning, extensive reading, intensive reading and evaluating. Also it aims to cultivate students' logical thinking abilities such as hypothesis, judgment, analysis, induction, reasoning and testing, thus helping students accumulate language knowledge and deepen cultural precipitation. This course, acting as an expansion and supplement of basic courses of College English listening, speaking, writing and translation, will help students improve their comprehensive English reading ability and provide necessary English language and cultural input.

The Outline of the National Plan for Medium- and Long-term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020) states:" To provide students with higher qualified professional education and personalized development space, cultivate students' independent learning ability, critical thinking ability, innovation and entrepreneurship, and strive to cultivate application-oriented, compound, innovative and entrepreneurial talents who can actively adapt to the needs of socialist market economy construction and have an international vision." This course, being a guiding ideology, adhere to the principle of our university’s undergraduate training scheme, aiming to cultivate high-quality talents with "strong diameter, thick foundation, wide application, individualism". As the core, it actively explores a deep fusion between "extended course" and "personality cultivation, knowledge and ability training".

4. 完成英文读书报告一篇；
5. 参加期中期末考试。
