This course introduces the basics of power electronic circuits and their applications. Fundamental engineering analysis methods, devices, circuits in power conversion are introduced.
After completing this course, you will,
get familiar and understand the structure and characteristics of power semiconductors such as thyristors, power MOSFET, IGBT, and know how to drive and inter-connect those switches
understand the commutation and analysis of basic rectifier circuits, dc-dc converter circuits, inverter circuits, and ac-ac converter circuits, understand how to design the parameters of such circuits
understand the principles of pulse width modulation and its application to the power converter circuits
understand the role of the power electronics in modern society
know how to simulate power electronic circuit using SPICE engine-based simulators
