Pathophysiology is exploration of the principle and underlying mechanism of disease onset and progression. We break this course’s study of Pathophysiology into three parts. First, the overview and introduction to disease. We will discuss the basic concepts, the principles and underlying mechanisms in development of diseases. Second, we will discuss common functional and metabolic inabnormalities many diseases. For example, fever, hypoxia, shock, fluid, electrolyte and acid-base imbalances are all fundamental pathophysiological changes shared by various diseases. Finally, we’ll examine the common pathophysiological mechanisms that occur in diseases of multiple vital organ systems.
