Microbiology is a compulsory course for bioengineering, biotechnology and bioscience majors. Being a basic as well as an applied discipline in life science, it is an extremely active subject with strong practicality. Microbiology will introduce the basic knowledge in microorganism systematically through the presentation of the brief history of the development of microbiology, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, viruses, microbial nutrition, growth and metabolism, heredity, ecology and classification, etc. Microbiology is a professional basic course in biological related subjects.
(1) To equip students with basic knowledge in microorganisms such as morphological structure, nutrition, physiology, metabolism, growth pattern and growth rule, heredity and variation, infection and immunity, classification and identification, and microbial ecology;
(2) To enable students to understand and master the basic principles and methods of microbiological experimental techniques such as isolation and cultivation of microbial strains, staining and observation, strains breeding, culture preservation, and control of harmful microorganisms;
(3) To make students understand the brief history of microbiology development and the important applications of microbes in industry, agriculture, medicine, food hygiene, environmental protection, life science research and technological development.
