课程概述

Course objectives

  1. Enable students to understand the basic theory, complete framework and development frontier of environmental chemistry.

  2. Enable students to master the main characteristics, main pollution phenomena and chemical principles of various environmental media.

  3. Develop the ability of students to comprehensively use the knowledge of environmental chemistry, understand and predict the environmental behavior, fate and risk of specific chemicals.

  4. Inspire students to use chemical knowledge to solve environmental pollution.

Environmental chemistry is a discipline that studies the source, occurrence state, migration and transformation behavior and effect of harmful substances in environmental medium and the principle and method of controlling chemistry. It is not only the core component of the secondary discipline of environmental science, but also a new branch of interdisciplinary development of chemistry.

At present, China's environmental pollution is still in the stage of increasing, the overall quality of the environment has not been improved, and environmental pollution accidents occur frequently. People rely too much on chemicals, and improper behaviors in the production, transportation, use and waste of chemicals make chemicals the culprit of environmental pollution. Only when the behavior, destination and toxicological characteristics of chemicals in the environment are fully understood can the hazards of chemicals be effectively controlled. Therefore, mastering the basic principles, research methods and means of environmental chemistry, and using these basic principles to explore pollution laws, explain pollution phenomena, and put forward the skills to improve pollution methods are the basic qualities that an environmental protection worker should have, and the basis for continuing to engage in the frontier research in the field of environmental science. Environmental chemistry is a compulsory course for undergraduates majoring in environmental science.

The course of environmental chemistry in Nankai University has a long history. In 1976, Nankai University set up the major of environmental protection in the Department of chemistry. Environmental chemistry was the first course and the first handout of environmental chemistry in China was compiled. In 1987, the first textbook of environmental chemistry was also compiled, which played a normative and leading role in the early establishment of national environmental chemistry course. In 1995, the higher education press organized four famous professors of environmental chemistry in Nankai University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University and Jilin University, with Professor Dai Shugui as the editor in chief, to compile environmental chemistry for the 21st century. In 2006, the textbook was revised. The textbook was successively selected into the national planning textbooks of "11th Five Year Plan" and "12th Five Year Plan" for general higher education, and became the authoritative textbook generally adopted by colleges and universities. Taking environmental media as the main line, this textbook introduces the occurrence, migration and transformation of chemicals in the atmosphere, water, soil and biosphere, respectively. On this basis, it introduces the environmental behavior of typical pollutants in each layer, which is the application and concentration of the contents of the previous chapters. The newly compiled textbook also adds new cross contents of environmental chemistry, such as remediation chemistry of polluted environment and pollution control chemistry. The textbook takes basic theory into consideration, keeps up with the academic frontier, pays attention to the combination of theory with practice, cultivates and stimulates scientific research thinking, and encourages innovative thinking and practice.

The course group of environmental chemistry of Nankai University has been paying attention to the construction of course theoretical system, using vivid and flexible teaching methods, and exploring the role of environmental chemistry in the cultivation of top talents of undergraduates. In 2007, the electronic teaching plan of environmental chemistry, which is matched with the teaching materials, was compiled, including more examples and information on the frontier development of environmental chemistry. This course has been selected into national excellent courses and excellent resource sharing courses, and won the first prize of Tianjin teaching achievement.
