课程概述

The course covers the basic tools of estimation and inference in the context of the single equation multivariate linear regression model, and deals primarily with least squares methods of estimation. The course emphasizes the intuitive understanding and practical application of these basic tools of regression analysis, as distinct from their formal theoretical development. The focus is on conceptual understanding and ‘hands-on’ applications using economic data drawn from real-world examples, rather than on formal theoretical proofs. By the end of the semester, students should be able to appreciate and interpret the econometric and statistical analysis reported in many studies in economics and be able to carry out and interpret their own econometric analysis.

 

 

成绩要求
  • Homework and Computer assignments (15%): There are several homework and computer lab hand-in exercises worth 15% total towards your final grades.

  • Exams (55%): a 60-minute mid-semester test (25%) and a two-hour final examination (30%). The date of the final exam is set by the University and I cannot change it. Also, university policies do not allow me to have make-up exams prior to this date. Those of you who plan to leave for the summer holiday must make travel plans accordingly.

  •  Reading report (15%): Two reading reports of assigned papers each worth 5%. You should turn in a report of 1000 words at least for each assigned article not later than Friday, 04/26/2019 and Friday, 05/31/2019 respectively.

  • Team Project (15%): You are required to collect your own data sets provided to conduct an empirical analysis of an economic problem. The project will be conducted in teams of 2 students. Groups are required to submit a written report on Friday, 06/26/2019, and to give a 10-minute presentation of your results during classes in the 18th week. In addition, each student must individually submit an executive summary of the project. Details for this project will be provided in a separate document.
