There are almost 1.2 million people died and over 20 million people injured caused by traffic accidents every year, which is announced by the World Health Organization (WHO). Traffic accident is becoming the major cause of death and the injured of humanity. Therefore, it is necessary to enrich the related knowledge of traffic safety by studying the Road Traffic Safety.

As the main course of Transportation Engineering, Road Traffic Safety reveals the relationships among traffic safety, people, vehicles, roads, and environment. It can also introduce the causes and preventive methods of traffic accidents. This lesson can develop the theories and techniques related to road traffic safety, which can solve practical engineering problems and lay foundations for future work for everyone.

Road Traffic Safety is built by teachers from department of Transportation Engineering in Hohai University. We aim to present the knowledge of road traffic safety systematically and comprehensively for every students.

The main target of this course is to enable students to master the basic concepts and fundamental theories of traffic safety, learn to use the theories and methods of traffic system safety analysis and evaluation, and traffic accident prevention to solve practical problems. Thus students have the basic ability to analyze and deal with various traffic safety issues comprehensively. This course makes full use of curriculum resources to cultivate students' ability to investigate, practice and innovate, and cultivate improve comprehensive ability to "discover problems, analyze problems and solve problems".

The prerequisite for this course is Traffic Engineering Basics, and students should have basic professional knowledge in traffic characteristics analysis and traffic planning and design.
