This course will review events that were of great concern and significant impact in the various historical periods of public health development around the world, introduce relevant concepts and their context of public health, international health and global health. This course will elaborate global burden of disease, determinants of health, major health issues and their response strategies, dissect the current major health issues of global concern, and analyze the decisive role of social development, health systems, public policies, and global cooperation in population health from factor analysis at community level to behavior guidance at individual level.
Global health aims to improve health status globally and achieve global health equity. Global health focuses on health issues, determinants and relevant solutions that transcend national borders, and it involves multiple disciplines inside and outside the medical field and advocates collaboration among different disciplines and the integration of population prevention and clinical treatment. Global health promotes equal treatment of all people in different regions, different economic levels, and different races. As a universal course of the Introduction to Global Health, it is designed to enable learners of different disciplines and professional fields to understand the history and related concepts of global health, as well as the concept of global disease burden, determinants of health, major health issues and global solutions. Curriculum contents include Global Health Overview, Health Systems and Financing, Global Burden of Disease, Environmental Health, Nutrition / Lifestyle and Health, Maternal & Child Care and Reproductive Health, Prevalence and Control of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, Prevalence and Control of AIDS, Aging and Prevention of Chronic Diseases, Response to Public Health Emergencies, etc.
The teaching team is composed of discipline leaders and senior professors in the School of Public Health of Fudan University. We expect this course will arouse the interest of students in different majors on global health issues, stimulate their interests in exploring health-related issues, guide them to analyze the social determinants of health, and provide them the ideas of working together to solve global health problems.
As an universal course of Introduction to Global Health, it is designed to enable learners of different disciplines and professional fields to understand the history and related concepts of global health, as well as global disease burden, health determinants, major health issues and global response strategies.
