spContent=Physical chemistry, once was summed up as a subject encompassing everything that is interesting by Gilbert N. Lewis, is the theoretical basis of chemical science, and also the indispensable worldview and methodology in cognition of the chemistry world. Herein, this forthcoming bilingual demonstration course from Dalian University of Technology are dedicated to undergraduates majored in chemical engineering, emphasizing a comprehensive, but well understood overview of experimental or theoretical approaches, fundamental concepts and principles, as well as their typical applications. Hope to bring you an authentic sense of modern physical chemistry and research interest to go on exploring and make your own breakthroughs in this diverse and fascinating field.

课程概述

The key concepts of physical chemistry date back to late 19th century. It is inherently multidisciplinary and aims to establish a basic theoretical framework for quantitative and systematic study of chemical systems from the perspective of the fundamental laws of physical science. To date, physical chemistry research focuses on a wide variety of chemical-related issues span from macroscopic to microscopic, from equilibrium to dynamic, and so on.

This online open course of “physical chemistry” is an English brand course for international students by Ministry of Education, national excellent resource sharing course, national bilingual demonstration course and Liaoning excellent course. The teaching team of this course is led by Professor Min Ji, including Professor Yantao Shi, Associate Professor Fuping Tian, Xuedan Song, Guanglan Li, Wei Liu and Professor Ce Hao. The team members have extremely abundant teaching experience, and have acquired plentiful provincial and school-level teaching achievement awards.

This course will provide a systematic study of physical chemistry, including the main sub-topics of  (1) thermodynamics, (2) quantum chemistry, (3) statistical thermodynamics, (4) kinetics, (5) surface and interface, and so on. Through the study of this course, you will learn to observe and recognize the numerous phenomena related to physical chemistry from a novel perspective. For example: Why does the lotus grow unsullied in the mud? Why water strider can float on the water? How to turn graphite into diamond? Why can lithium-ion batteries completely replace traditional alkaline rechargeable batteries? Why can brine pick out tofu, and deltas are easily formed where rivers enter the sea? Welcome to join us and discover the answers to such fundamental questions and more.

授课目标

Physical chemistry is a compulsory fundamental course for undergraduates majored in chemical engineering. The main teaching objectives are as follows:

1. To master the basic concepts, principles, research ideas and methods involved in physical chemistry, and attach importance to the connection between theory and production practice, finally achieving the purpose of flexible application and analysis of various practical problems related to chemistry.

2. To cultivate the scientific thinking methods, experimental scientific research as well as inductive and deductive ability, so as to learn to analyze and solve problems, which lays a foundation for future research, teaching and other work in chemistry and related fields.
