(I'd prefer you to leave him alone as much as possible.)</p></li><li><p>I have known him as long as you.</p><p>I'd say the sentence is ambiguous: it could mean either of the options you gave; it's not 100% clear; probably the first option.</p><p>The difference is clarification. The addition of &quot;have&quot; at the end of this sentence shows that: &quot;I&quot; have known &quot;him&quot; for the same amount of time that &quot;you&quot; have known &quot;him&quot; for [although it mentions nothing about the length of time that &quot;you&quot; and &quot;I&quot; have known each other].</p><p>Cheers!</p></li></ol>
