根据2018年英语本科专业国家教学标准要求，要培养学生具有全球化理念和国际化视野，并对不同意识形态有清醒的认识和正确的立场。同时，根据2018年英语专业人才培养方案要求，毕业生应具备跨文化能力，具有中国情怀和国际视野，具有正确的世界观，人生观和价值观。《跨文化交际》课程定位于为学生今后进行跨文化交际提供语言支撑，帮助学生如何理解中外不同的世界观、价值观、思维方式，为他们今后的跨文化交际奠定基础。
“跨文化交际”的学习不需要学生具备专业的背景知识，课程中讲授的是通用的一般性理论知识和技能，例如：什么是跨文化交际、交际、文化与交际的关系、文化价值观与文化模式、言语交际、非言语交际、跨文化交际障碍、跨文化交际适应以及跨文化交际能力等。学习这些理论和知识有助于培养学生树立世界眼光、培养国际意识、提高人文素养。批判性思维和科学思维的培养也是该课程的主要目标之一，因此它适合所有的大学本科学生学习。
本课程最终成绩构成如下：
平时成绩占总成绩的60%， 期末考试总成绩的40%。
作为大学英语的选修课程，该课程旨在突出大学英语的人文性特征。因此跨文化交际知识的传授、应用和表达并不力求系统性和高难度，学生并不需要具备预备知识，有基本的听、说、读、写的语言基础就可以参与学习。

A : 本课程只需要学生具备基本的听、说、读、写能力，即使您并没有通过大学英语四级考试也可以从本课程中获益；当然如果您的水平是大学英语四级水平及其以上，学习该门课程的效果会更好。
Q : 我没有专业的背景知识，可以学习“跨文化交际”这门课程吗？
A : 本课程是“跨文化交际”，不需要学生具备专业的学科知识就可以参与学习，课程中讲授的内容涉及跨文化交际中使用的一般理论知识和技能，学生只需具备基本英语听、说、读、写能力的均可参加学习。
Q : 我想参加雅思或者托福考试，学习该课程会对我的考试有帮助吗？
A : 雅思和托福考试是国际通行的英语测试，这类考试考察的跨文化交际技能和我们课程讲授的技能有很多契合点。我们在设计该课程时，也考虑到了此类考试的知识与技能考核点，因此该课程的目的之一就是为学生今后在跨文化交际中避免失误并提供语言支撑。
Q : 该在线课程的教学模式是怎么样的？
A : 课程模式为：教师视频授课（理论讲解）---课后测验（选择题）---观看视频后讨论（师生互动）---补充练习或者阅读（拓展输入）。
Q : 学习完该课程，我的语言能力会有提高吗？
A : 本课程选取了很多Ted演讲视频及英文原声电影剪辑，学生可以进一步夯实语言基础，提高跨文化交际能力。
Q : 本课程有配套的教材吗？
A : 本课程目前暂时没有配套教材（正在编写中）。我们参考由严明编写的清华大学出版的《大学英语跨文化交际教程》，所讲授内容都是授课教师多方搜集资料，自行整合最终完成授课内容的设计。只要大家认真听课，积极参与课后讨论，阅读或观看课后相关补充资料完全可以掌握所讲授的内容。
