Clinical Technologies of Pediatric Dentistry is an independent branch of stomatology, which is aimed at children and adolescents in the growth and development stage to study the morphology and function of teeth, dentition, jaw, and soft tissues within the oral range, diagnose, treat and prevent oral diseases and deformities so that they can form a functional chewing organ.

With the development of China's economy, people's living standards have been greatly improved, and the dietary structure is manifested in more refined food, the consumption of sugar food has increased sharply, the prevalence of dental caries in children has gradually increased, and the people have more and more needs for the treatment of children's oral diseases. At the same time, society's awareness of the importance of the prevention and treatment of children's oral diseases is increasing, and more and more students are willing to choose children's dental workers as their future careers.

    Clinical Technologies of Pediatric Dentistry have a wide range of disciplines and strong technicality. What's more, students need to carry out more theoretical learning and clinical technical training in the process of entering preclinical and clinical practice, so the existing teaching mode in China is changing from emphasizing theory over practice to emphasizing both theory and practice. Therefore, the Department of Pediatric Stomatology of the School of Stomatology of Wuhan University has set up a core teaching team to carefully prepare and launch a large-scale open online course with strong practice "Common Clinical Techniques of Children's Dentistry". The course content includes six aspects: children's oral examination and behavior management, caries and dental dysplasia, endodontic disease and apical periodonymic disease treatment, dental trauma, early occlusion management, and pediatric oral surgery, which basically covers the prevention and clinical treatment techniques of common diseases in pediatric stomatology. Different from the disease-centered teaching of general courses, this course focuses on prevention and treatment techniques, highlights practicality in the arrangement of time and content, and is equipped with typical case analysis and practical operation videos, which is conducive to learners' better grasp and application.
