Under the dual trend of internationalization and the development of contemporary China, this course will continue to expand to new topics and new trends at home and abroad. The course will start from a broader international perspective and take the countries along the “Belt and Road” as an example to discuss the development of urban planning theory and practice from a comparative perspective between China and the West; at the same time, it also discusses the common face of urban planning in the past and future urban planning Challenges and the application of new technologies. The course introduces the thoughts of urban planning and community planning in the United States over the past 100 years. At the request of the times, it also joined the chapter of Chinese community planning dominated by humanistic care, which reflects the same road from the east to the west from focusing on material space to focusing on social issues.

    As a professional core course of Beijing Jiaotong University, smart cities, data support design, the relationship between rail transit and urban development, etc. are also added to the course, which are crucial to urban development in the 21st century. It is hoped that through the study of this course, we will cultivate application-oriented high-level urban planning talents who adapt to the trend of internationalization, have a solid theoretical foundation, and meet the actual needs of urban planning industries and occupations. Through the course learning, I hope that students will get the thinking framework of liberal arts education-not only have the professional knowledge of urban planning, but also have the leadership and pioneering spirit of the city. 

    The chapters of the course are relatively independent. You can either learn chapter by chapter in order, or watch the chapters of interest independently. Each course has two versions in Chinese and English, which is convenient for Chinese students and international students to use interactively while studying.
