This course provides fundamental skill of engineering drawing reading and writing, international and Chinese standards on engineering drawing. The course focuses on presentation of 3-dimensional geometry on 2-dimensional media and working drawing reading and writing.
After taken this course, students can:
Have the basic concept of mechanical design and representation and be familiar with the common mechanical structures and their fabrication processes.
Be familiar with freehand sketch for design concept communication.
Be expert in engineering drawing reading, can smoothly switch between the 1st and the 3rd projection system in drawing reading and writing, and have the fundamental skill of engineering drawing writing with drawing equipment and AUTOCAD software.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to represent a part or an assembly with 2-dimentional views, conventions, auxiliary views and section views according its characteristic, which is the foundation of making working drawing with modeling software in the following spring semester.
Know international and national drawing standard very well and understand why and how these disciplines or simplify on standard structure make the representation more clearly if strictly followed.
Have the ability of dimensioning without repetition and omission; be familiar with the contents in detail drawing and assembly drawing.
All these skills are necessary for the advanced engineering drawing—parametric design & representation. And we introduced these in a new way which is different from traditional engineering drawing course. We give this course in an view of an engineer who want to represent the shape and size of his design, which is the same view of parametric design and representation but with computer and special software.
